Wakaru - Read and Understand Japanese - Miho Matsuoka

Wakaru is a contextual-help reader and a godsend for improving reading and vocabulary, and this is the app I’ve spent a lot of time looking for.  The reason why it makes the list is because it combines 3 simple into features into one app:
  • Reader - Web browser & eBook reader.
  • Contextual lookup - When reading, you can select any text and look up its meaning.
  • Vocabulary list builder - This is where Wakaru really shines.  After you look up the meaning, you can add it to your own custom vocabulary study lists, add notes, and even export vocabulary lists into Excel and other common formats.
Before Wakaru came out, you had to use 3 Apps, a dictionary, a browser and a list builder to accomplish what this one app does.  Brilliant!

Contextual search on the fly.

Build vocabulary lists and quiz blind.

Reveal the answer with a tap.  Add it to your checked or not-learned yet.

The eBook reader even comes with "I am a Cat."  Classic!
